We believe the Bible calls Christians to be in relationship with one another (Acts 2:42-47). We have found that the best way to achieve this type of community life is through small groups.

The purpose of Life Groups at Northwest Community Church is to help people love God and love others by creating a predictable and conversational environment that pursues Christ through authentic community. Life groups are marked by discipleship that happens through mutual learning, mutual care and mutual trust.

How do I get connected into a small group?

Beginning in 2016 we have two semester of “All-Church Teaching Nights” scheduled for January and September. The community and guests will gather for a simple supper, a teaching time and a time of discussion. The mid-week service will happen on Wednesdays from 6:30-8PM. After the six week semester, we will launch the life groups to begin meeting throughout the week.

When and where do groups meet?

Groups gather throughout the week and meet in one of the group member’s homes. Usually the location is consistent, but sometimes other group members take turns hosting the group meeting at their house.

How often do the groups meet?

Groups meet weekly from September through May. Some groups may have a different meeting schedule to accommodate the schedules of a majority. Many groups do not meet during the summer.

How long does each group meeting last?

Each group decides on the length of the group meeting. Most groups meet for 1.5 to 2 hours.

What goes on at a group meeting?

Though each group differs in how they do things, many groups have a social time in the beginning, and then transition to a study time and then pray for each other. During your first several weeks together, each group uses a Starter Guide to highlight group norms and establish expectations.

What do groups study?

Following the Starter Guide, each group picks their own study with guidance from the Small Group Pastor.

How long does a small group last?

Groups have a trial run using our church-wide starter curriculum which is typically a 6 week commitment. After that, the group members will determine whether to continue meeting.  Groups typically stay together 12-24 months.

What does it mean when a group “adjourns?”

All small groups have a life cycle. We have found that 12-24 months is the life cycle to most small groups at Northwest Community Church. Rather than dissolve, it is best that groups intentionally adjourn, celebrating their time together and then connecting into new small groups. New relationships continue to foster spiritual growth and allows those who are new to our church an opportunity to connect with others who have small group experience.
