Northwest is a contemporary church intentional about engaging our community, which is why we look forward to participating in such annual events as handing out free refreshments at the Columbia Heights Day Festival, Adams Morgan Festival, and the DC Health Fair.   We often sponsor free car washes.  See below for a more detailed description of ongoing outreach programs and specific neighborhood activities over the past.

Northwest in Our Community

ONGOING  •  Onsite tutoring center serves 50+ kids.  Groups prepare and serve food monthly at Martha’s Table.
APRIL 4  •  FREE CAR WASH!  Northwest Washed 35 cars in our parking lot as a free gift to our community
MAY 30  •  Journeyman Theater Company used the church yard for a fund raiser
JUNE 12  •  Northwest gave away free copies of the bestseller “The Shack” on the streets of Columbia Heights
JULY 10  •  FREE CAR WASH!  Northwest washed 65 cars in our parking lot and gave away free food
AUGUST 29  •  Northwest has a booth at COLUMBIA HEIGHTS DAY.  We served 300 cups of lemonade!
AUGUST  •  The Principal of Powell was welcomed to our community in morning worship.  Northwest responded to her request and placed  four large planters with evergreens at the entrance of the school and bought some additional uniforms.
SEPTEMBER  •  Youthnet starts 3rd year of tutoring center at Northwest.  50 kids are served each week. (ongoing)
SEPTEMBER 13  •  Northwest has a booth at ADAMS MORGAN FESTIVAL.  We served 600 cups of water and lemonade and give “tattoos”!
OCTOBER 11  •  Northwest has a tub of drinks on 16th street and gives away 100 waters and sodas as part of “THIRSTY?” campaign
OCTOBER 28  •  9000 postcards are mailed to our community telling more about our church
OCTOBER 30  •  Northwest attends DC HEALTH FAIR where Pastor Dan entertains with his musical act and volunteers give 320 cups of coffee and cider
NOVEMBER  •  Northwest establishes a new partnership with “Loaves and Fishes” to help provide volunteers for weekly soup kitchen this is in addition to the partnership we have had with Martha’s Table. (ongoing)
DECEMBER 11  •  Northwest hosts a “Holiday Celebration” in the lobby of the Woodner apartments and will provides free food, pictures with Santa, a craft workshop and live music
DECEMBER 17  •  Northwest hosts a Christmas reception for the teachers and staff at Powell Elementary School
