Here is a talented young rabbi and yet he is wasting his talent on “those people.” In this grace-filled series of sermons, we’ll discover Jesus’ affinity to the outcasts and learn more about the incredible love that he shared while he was on earth. 20s/30s Retreat: July 29-31

Retreats are a time to step out of the concerns of everyday life and gain perspective, build friendships, and learn how to hear and respond to God’s voice. The 20s/30s Group’s Summer 2011 Retreat will be held on July 29-31 at Cherry Hill Park. Anticipated activities include games, cookout/campfire, a hike at Great Falls, and group discussions. See below for details, frequently asked questions, and contact information.

DETAILS

Dates – July 29, 30, 31
We will meet at NWCC on Friday evening to carpool to Cherry Hill, and return to the church on Sunday afternoon. If you need transportation between home and the church on Friday and Sunday, contact Anna Nehring as soon as possible.

Register – on or before Sunday, July 24
Return the registration form to Krista Kartson via email or in the offering plate on Sunday.

Cost – $65 per person
This includes 2 nights’ housing in a cabin or yurt, transportation, all meals & games/excursions (e.g., hiking fee). Make checks out to Northwest Community Church and write “20s/30s Retreat” in the memo line. Cost is flexible; see FAQs for more details.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. Do I have to attend Northwest Community Church in order to attend?
A. No, but we’d love to meet you beforehand to learn about your interests and what you would like to get out of the retreat.

Q. Will there be electricity?
A. Yes. We will be sleeping in three different cabins, which will have electricity, built-in lighting, a mini refrigerator, and microwave. Toilets, sinks and showers are less than a minute’s walk away, and are indoors. Amenities also include a pool, putt-putt golf, outdoor movie theater, café and recreation center. Q. I cannot afford the cost. Can I still come?
A. Absolutely. We do not want lack of funds to hinder anyone from attending the retreat. Contact Krista for details.

Q. I can only attend one day, or only part of the weekend. Is this a possibility?
A. You are highly encouraged to stay for the entire retreat, but if this is not possible, staying for part is certainly an option. Contact Krista for a proportionate rate and to coordinate arrival times.

Q. Can children come?
A. To maintain our focus on growing closer to God and others in the group, bringing children is discouraged. Please contact Anna by July 17 if you are in need of childcare for Saturday.

When Faith is Tested – Sermon Series

In this extended Summer Preaching Series we’ll look at the amazing lives of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as they learned who God was and had their faith put to the test. The test might include waiting for a mate, walking in uncertainty, following through with God’s instructions, etc. As we see what the forerunners of the faith did, we’ll be challenged to give our all to God as well no matter what our circumstances might be.

NWCC is recruiting special agents between the ages of 3-18 to uncover truths about forgiveness, helping others, making smart choices, and much more. As a special agent, your mission will be to report to headquarters between 6:30-8:30 on July 25-29 for assignments, which will include games, crafts, snacks, songs, and other fun activities.

Acts 2 tells the story of how every nation from under heaven was present when God’s Spirit allowed the message of Jesus to be communicated in numerous languages. NWCC is blessed to have a wonderfully diverse congregation. On June 12 we’ll celebrate our diversity and the unifying power of God’s Spirit. Homeless Ministry Team Neighborhood Food Drive

As Northwest regularly gets requests from neighbors for food contributions, we are increasingly aware of the need to be prepared with a rapid and practical response. As a result, we have committed to starting a food pantry, and are calling for our congregation and neighbors who have the resources to donate food and funds to provide for those in need. We particularly request such nutritious donations as beans, nuts, whole wheat pastas, vegetables, dried fruits, and oats. We also accept monetary donations.

We are accepting donations on a rolling basis, but will be collecting door-to-door in our neighborhood on May 27 and 28.

End of Testing Mini-Celebration for Powell School

Kuyasa Kid’s Choir from South Africa – 4/24/11

Horizon International’s acclaimed ambassador choir from Capetown, South Africa will be in concert at Northwest Community Church on Sunday, April 24 at 7pm. (Easter Evening). The Kuyasa Kids are from a Xhosa tribal township called Kayamandi, approximately 25 miles from Capetwon, Western Cape Province, South Africa. Some of the eighteen children and youth traveling in the Choir are making their seventh concert tour of the United States.

The purpose of the Spring Choir Tour, scheduled from April 1-25, 2011 is to encourage Americans to sponsor African children and youth who have lost their parents ot the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

Horizon International is a non-profit Christian relief and development organization dedicated to creating a world of hope for orphans affected by HIV/AIDS. The organization based in Pendleton, Indiana, serves these orphans and their communities regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, or gender, enabling them to break the cycle of poverty and live free from the bonds of poverty and disease. For $35 per month, once can provide an African AIDS orphan with basic food, clothing, and education, basic health care, and in some cases, a place to live.
