The book of Acts is the story of the Church. It’s the story of its unlikely birth, its dramatic growth and its amazing journey of survival. The first eight chapters of Acts tell the story of a community that arises out of the sacrificial death of its leader, is emboldened by the resurrection of Jesus and is empowered by the Holy Spirit. In these chapters, we see the “evidence” of God’s miraculous activity and watch as common, ordinary men and women are used by God to change their city and eventually the world. The book of Acts does not tell the whole story of the church, only the beginning. This enduring community, held together by a common mission, continues to be the “evidence” of God’s gracious activity in the world.
